ZAPF! Beer Festival

The ZAPF! Craft Beer Festival Bern takes place annually in Bern.  Beer producers from the city and the region surrounding Bern will be presenting a wide variety of craft beers. (Event takes place between June and July each year)

Hiking Season 

Want to go on a hike but now sure where to start? Consider the Niesen Panorama path (#6). The Niesen is known as the “Swiss Pyramid” and is easily recognizable and accessible from Bern.

The Muggestutz Adventure Dwarf Trails are a great place to start!

It’s time to choose from more than 65,000Kof marked hiking trails to explore Switzerland with a different view. There are more than 50,000 “Wanderweg” sign posts along the trails which will tell you about their difficulty, final destination, and estimated time it’ll take you to get there.

 

There are long-distance hikes, family-friendly hikes, hikes along water, hikes with panoramic views, vineyard walks, cultural trails, and more. It’s time to get out and explore the great Swiss outdoors!

Asia Festival Bern

This annual street festival has culinary market stalls for visitors to enjoy the exotic scents and cuisine of Asia. Traditional and modern performances will take place as well.

Visit the Bern museums for FREE on the traditionally in August.

International Alphorn Festival

Late July

Alphorn blowers from the entire world descend on Nendaz for the International Alphorn Festival.

Program Features: An official alpenhorn blowing competition, a trachten parade (featuring folk costumes), concerts, folklore events, and a band with over 150 alpenhorn players. It’s a true folk festival devoted to tradition!

Outdoor Swimming Season

May - September

June 21st marks the first day of summer and that means it’s time for swimming in Bern!

There are 20 indoor and outdoor pools scattered all over Bern, some are free and some have small fees. Bern’s most popular outdoor pool is the Marzili bad . As with all of the city’s municipal pools, there is no charge for swimming here.

Looking for pools with slides, concessions, and green spaces at a low price, consider CLO’s favorites:

St. Beatus Caves

Nestled in the Alps, overlooking Lake Thun between Thun and Interlaken, is one of Switzerland’s best-kept secrets: St. Beatus Caves. Legend has it that JRR Tolkien’s vision for Rivendell (the Elven realm in Middle Earth) was inspired by his visit here when he was 19. The 15 minute hike through the waterfalls before getting to the cave opening, museum, and restaurant are free.
